Exercising Outdoors – Training for the Fan Dance.

Written by David Hogg – Managing Director Mobile Gym Fitness

I’m crazy I know, but this cause was just too important for Mobile Gym Fitness not to try and help in some small way.

Benefits of exercise outdoors

There are loads of benefits to exercising outdoors. Here are some that we at Mobile Gym Fitness think can have a real impact in your life:

  • Good mood vibes – Spending time in nature has been shown to have a positive impact on mood, reducing stress and anxiety.
  • Free vitamin D – No supplements needed here, the Sun’s ultraviolet rays help the body produce vitamin D, which is important for bone health and immune function. But remember everything in moderation and make sure you use sunblock if you’re out for a while.
  • Better sleep – Your body is a machine, with a battery. When you exercise you’re draining the battery, but the great news is you recharge that battery every night when you go to sleep. The more tired you get, the deeper your sleep, and science has said that exercising outdoors in all of that fresh air, is a fantastic cleanse for your body, which improves your sleep quality.
  • Weight loss – Exercise is an important part of any weight management plan, and exercising outdoors can help you burn more calories because of your interaction with your surroundings. Walking on a trail outdoors is better than a treadmill!
  • Bigger brains – Yep! Exercise can help improve cognitive function, including memory and attention, so if you’ve got a big exam, or an important meeting at work, try going for a brisk walk in the morning when you wake up.
  • Builds communities – Exercising outdoors can be a great way to meet new people and socialize.

If you’re looking for a way to improve your health and well-being, consider adding some outdoor exercise to your routine. It’s a great way to get some fresh air, sunshine, and exercise all at the same time.

Now as part of the Fan Dance Challenge, I’ll be doing a fair bit of hiking. I hope you’ll be able to track my progress as I’ll be doing a few Facebook Live’s en-route.  Hiking is another form of exercise, so I thought I’d list a few of the specific benefits here in addition to those above.

Benefits of hiking…

Physical benefits – Hiking is a great way to get cardiovascular exercise, build muscle, and improve your overall fitness. It can also help to improve your balance, coordination, and flexibility.

Mental health benefits – Hiking can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also help to improve your mood, sleep quality, and cognitive function.

Environmental benefits – Hiking can help to reduce your carbon footprint and promote sustainability. It can also help you to appreciate the beauty of nature and the importance of conservation.

FREE – All you need is a hill to walk up…

If you’re looking for a way to improve your health and well-being, hiking is a great option. It’s a fun, affordable, and accessible activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels. So get out there and explore the trails!

Training For The Fan Dance Event

As a Personal Trainer I know the importance of being physically and mentally ready for a fitness event like this so, I have started my training plan which includes lots of local hikes with a heavier load on my back but for a shorter distance to condition my body. I’ve also scheduled in some weekend hiking trips in Spain, Ireland and the UK. I’ve chosen these locations so I can experience walking in different condition as June in the UK can be hot, cold, raining or just right!

I’ve completed a number of training sessions at the training grounds of the wheelchair athletics club that I am raising the money for, which has given all the motivation I will need to complete this event. However I have found listening to music and listening to audible books have kept me going for those longer and harder sessions. One book that I found really motivating was a book called ‘Decision Point’ by Nathan John, it is a book about personal development and self-motivation, it has helped me for this event and grow my business to a national level. The Importance of Challenging Yourself

Challenging yourself is important for both physical fitness and mental health. When you challenge yourself, you are pushing your own limits and growing as a person. You don’t have to compete with anyone else, this is an entirely personal journey. There are loads of benefits to challenging yourself, here are a few of my favourites:

Improved mental outlook – When you challenge physically you push you previously held mental limits. This means your new benchmark and comfort zone gets that little bit bigger, resulting in more confidence, more resilience, and a sense of accomplishment. This can lead to a number of mental health benefits, such as reduced stress, anxiety, and depression.

Increased motivation – WARNING! PROGRESS WILL LEAD TO MORE MOTIVATION! – When you see yourself making progress, it can motivate you to continue challenging yourself. This can lead to a cycle of positive reinforcement that will help you achieve your goals.

Improved physical fitness – When you challenge yourself physically, you build a stronger heart and lungs which increases your endurance. This can lead to a number of health benefits, such as a reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.

There are a number of ways to challenge yourself. Try some of these:

Setting fitness goals – This could be anything from running a 5K to lifting a certain amount of weight or even just going for a walk around your local park.

Learning new things – If you want to challenge yourself mentally, try learning something new. This could be anything from taking a class to learning a new language. Future Fit (our fitness education partner) has some amazing courses from, nutrition to personal trainer courses. Check them out.

Stepping outside of your comfort zone – If you want to push yourself, step outside of your comfort zone. This could be anything from trying a new food to going on a new adventure.

Challenging yourself is a great way to improve your physical fitness, mental outlook, and motivation. So get out there and start challenging yourself today!

Here are some additional tips for challenging yourself:

  • Start small and gradually increase the challenge.
  • Find a supportive community to help you stay motivated.
  • Reward yourself for your accomplishments.
  • Don’t give up! It’s okay to have setbacks, just keep going.
