As a military veteran and seasoned personal trainer, Dan recognised that the fitness industry has developed a lot over the years. In order to offer his clients the best possible product and service, he chose to study Level 5 Elite PT and RSPH Nutrition with Future Fit to update his knowledge to the highest industry standards.
I was born in Gosport, Hampshire. After leaving school and attending college I joined the British Army as a vehicle mechanic in the Royal, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After returning from Afghanistan in 2011 after being deployed on Operation Herrick 13, I attended my all arms Physical Training Instructor (PTI) course in 2012.
I then deployed to Canada and upon my return I took over the role of the 2nd in command of a Battalion gym where I oversaw the physical training and development of all ranks within a field army unit. Here I was responsible for not only running the day-to-day physical training of the unit but also for the training of soldiers about to deploy on operations. I was then selected to train new recruits and spent a further 4 years as a PTI in a phase 2 training establishment where I was responsible for the health and fitness of hundreds of future soldiers of the British army.
I left the Army in 2017 and joined the civil service where I now work as the PTI for 73 TRAINING SQN in Southampton. Here I am responsible for not only the health and physical training of the sea faring troops of the British army whilst they conduct their trade trading but also the permanent staff. I am also responsible for the planning and running of various adventure training expeditions around the UK and abroad.
I am also the proud owner of the Gosport franchise of “Bootcamp UK” which is the UK’s fastest growing outdoor fitness provider. A position I have held now for over 7 years.
I chose future fit because they are the best in the business. The thing that really stood out for me is that the face-to-face workshops are a big part of the courses. To me, human interaction is one of the most important parts of being a fitness trainer. This is a job where you need to command respect and have presence, you cant do that from behind a computer screen.

Playing sport from a young age I’ve always been surrounded by positive role models. One of my first ever rugby coaches was a Royal Navy Physical Training Instructor and an ex–field gunner, so I always had massive respect for him. He lit the spark in me from the very first time I stepped on a rugby pitch and highlighted the importance of keeping fit. Then, when I joined the army, I always looked at my PTIs I had in training as supermen and I always knew that eventually, I wanted to become one of them.
Beef Stew with crusty bread and butter. I could eat that for every meal of every day for the rest of my life. I cant get enough of it.
Wreck it Ralph… I love smashing things!
Anything that gives me a dopamine hit!! I enjoy anything from functional work and basic strength training to gymnastics and sport specific workouts.
As part of my job as a PTI in both the Army and civil service I’ve always had to have a decent level of ability in all aspects of training….. anything that leaves me gasping for air, dripping in sweat and sore is always good for me!
Fitness to me is an integral part of existing as a human being and should never be seen as a chore. I wake up every single day grateful that im able to work out and I will continue training until my body physically gives up on me!!
To be able to do something im so passionate about as my job makes me feel extremely lucky and with fitness being the most underutilised anti-depressant I am always keen to share my knowledge with those around me.
Having passion for something is loving something so much that you’d do it for free… so as far as careers go I feel I’m in the perfect position!
Not at all. I was just massively excited to get going! I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to work as an ambassador with future fit and I hope to maintain a strong working relationship with them for the foreseeable future!
Try to be as much of an all rounder as possible and try to understand that every individual is different. What works well for some may not work well for others. Work hard on your people skills, always remain approachable and be prepared to be willing to adapt your processes and be open to learning new things. The fitness industry is forever changing so you need to be willing to step outside of your lane/comfort zone. Never expect clients to do anything you aren’t personally prepared to do/have done so yourself and try your very best to maintain a high level of contagious enthusiasm.
MANAGERS are people you follow because you NEED to.
LEADERS are people you follow because you WANT to.
So always strive to be the latter.
I would love to be able to talk to animals. Especially dogs… I am obsessed with dogs.
