What are the different levels of Sports Massage?

The different levels for sports massage professionals are:

As you can see, there are several different levels of qualification for a Sports Massage Therapist or fitness professional. Level 3 is the standard required to work as a qualified Sports Massage Therapist, the Level 4 is equivalent to a school GCSE level or university standard entry-level. Level 5 is the equivalent of a university undergraduate and it includes clinical skills for advanced training.

Why are there different levels of Sports Massage?

Some training courses give a progression through the grade levels, however, this implies learning anatomy and massage at a very basic L3, which is insufficient for the essential therapeutic skills required at L5. An integrated Level 5 certificate covers the basic disciplines at the appropriate clinical level for advanced training.

When accepting qualification Levels, all awarding bodies (BTEC, ITEC, VTCT, and so on) must utilize the same standards, therefore they must all be similar. An L4 certification from one organization cannot be equated to an L5 from another.

What is the purpose of a Sports Massage qualification?

A sports massage certificate is designed to give professionals in the fitness industry the theoretical understanding and practical abilities needed to properly and securely administer massage and recovery programs to sports professionals.

To be a qualified sports massage therapist, you need to train and be qualified to:

  • Complete advanced, specific sports massage; tailored for individuals and their particular needs
  • Comply with the standards and protocols relevant to the profession
  • Work one-to-one with clients – Providing a higher level of support and creating a more valuable experience.

The above is just a few of the things you must learn to become a Sports Massage Therapist, for more information about becoming, enquire today.
