With 14 impactful years at the forefront of Active Krav Maga Ltd. (my Self Defence school), I’ve empowered diverse individuals, from military operatives, Close Protection officers to college students and mums. For me, Krav Maga is more than just self-defence; it’s about elevating life and instilling confidence that transcends into other areas of one’s life.
Growing wiser, I’ve observed a disconnection between people and their bodies, a daily battle. Now armed with a new tool- Pilates, I’m on a mission to guide individuals back to their natural strength, reconnecting them with their core and unlocking their true potential for a resilient and empowered life.
Take it step by step. Learning is a gradual process; remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. Additionally, always keep in mind that it's not about you—it's about your clients. They are more interested in what you can offer them than the appearance of your biceps. Allocate your time wisely across the three essential components of this journey: your training, continuous study to evolve as a better coach, and effective marketing. Balancing these aspects ensures a holistic and successful progression in your fitness and coaching career.
Anna Martensson
Passionate about health and fitness, my journey as a Krav Maga instructor commenced in 2009. Teaching self-defence revealed a gap—many of my students lacked basic fitness foundations, some never having done a push-up. To address this, I pursued a Fitness Instructor Level 2 course in 2013, followed by Personal Trainer certification in 2014. This opened doors to diverse and challenging courses, delving even into biomechanics and adult fitness gymnastics. My evolving expertise aims to equip individuals with self-defence skills and a holistic foundation, fostering overall well-being through a fusion of Krav Maga and comprehensive fitness knowledge.
I’ve just wrapped up my Level 3 Pilates Teaching course, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of amazing. As a lockdown mom, my interest in women’s health and postpartum recovery deepened. In January 2023, I dived into the course, optimistically thinking my overachiever mindset would have me done by April. Little did I know, the challenge was twofold—with a toddler by my side and the sheer depth of the course content. I revisited anatomy three times to ensure it stuck. The practical workshops, guided by the brilliant instructors Caralyn and Annie Smith, were nothing short of inspiring.
Unlike previous courses, this one isn’t about passing and forgetting; it’s about establishing true foundations to become a great Pilates teacher. The online learning, surprisingly engaging even for my sleep-deprived brain, added an interactive and exciting dimension to the entire experience.
In my journey, I’ve found pride in a few milestones: navigating as a female Krav Maga instructor, a rarity in a field dominated by 95% men. Steering the largest Krav Maga school in Gloucestershire, I’ve embraced the challenges and triumphs. I stand among the select few women who completed a Military Krav Maga instructor course, a unique achievement marked by its setting in a Serbian Special Police Base in Belgrade. My brainchild, the women-only M-Power program, earned its spotlight on BBC radio and Channel 5 news, a testament to the impact of empowerment. In education, I organize Firearms Crash Courses for military enthusiasts, adding depth to my journey.
Tricky question… The kitchen is not my favourite place! I enjoy making salad bowls with fish and oven-baked veggies.
My foremost advice for those embarking on their journey is to take it step by step. Learning is a gradual process; remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Additionally, remember that it’s not about you—it’s about your clients. They are more interested in what you can offer them than the appearance of your biceps. Allocate your time wisely across the three essential components of this journey: your training, continuous study to evolve as a better coach, and effective marketing. Balancing these aspects ensures a holistic and successful fitness and coaching career progression.

Cusco in Peru holds a special place in my heart—it’s not just a destination; it’s where I spent two beautiful weeks and, more significantly, where I tied the knot. The memories and the magic of that time make Cusco a truly cherished place for me.
