Rachel Lines – Legacy Awards

In 2014 Rachel Lines was diagnosed with cancer in her eye. Aged just 31 and on maternity leave with her eight month daughter, the diagnosis was life changing and proved to be the catalyst for a complete lifestyle change.

“As a head of marketing, I had an incredibly busy and pressurised job. My lifestyle was stressful and fast-paced and involved lots of late nights and socialising. I was not taking care of myself; I thought I was invincible.”

In addition to her hectic work life, Rachel would take part in gruelling triathlons – even completing the London Triathlon with cancer.

“I had an unhealthy relationship with exercise. I saw it as a means to burn calories and lose weight. And I thought it had to be hard to be any good.”

Changing life after diagnosis…

But all that changed with the diagnosis. Rachel ditched her job and began to invest in her health.

“I started to think about my lifestyle and what I was eating. Instead of thinking of food in terms of calories or sugar content, I listened to what my body needed and developed a completely different relationship with food. This was the start of me falling back in love with my body,” she says.

Qualifying as a fitness instructor…

As part of her journey of rediscovery, Rachel developed a love of Barre classes and went on to qualify as a Barre instructor.

“I had thought about training as a PT, but it felt like too much of an investment of both time and money. But qualifying as a Barre instructor and then establishing some popular classes gave me the confidence to train as a PT.”

Rachel gained her Level 3 – Complete Personal Trainer Diploma with Future Fit Training and is about to complete her Level 4 qualification.

“I’ve learned so much on the Future Fit courses. As a Barre instructor, I know which moves my clients should make, but thanks to my PT training, I now know why they are making these moves, which muscles are involved and how it impacts the body.”

Qualifying as a PT has allowed Rachel to expand her business and she now offers weekly circuits, barre and PT sessions.

Winning Bronze at the Legacy Awards…

She received the bronze award in the Raising your Bar category of the Future Fit Training’s Legacy Awards, as well as a mentoring package, promotional video shoot for her business, a year’s CIMSPA membership and access to Future Fit’s CPD platform, ProZone.

“I saw the awards as a great opportunity to support my business, but I never thought I’d win. I was blown away and the awards themselves were wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and approachable,” says Rachel.

Since the awards, Rachel has made friends with some of the finalists and is already planning to set up a retreat business in Cornwall with fellow award winner Clare Learoyd.

In the longer term, Rachel plans to establish an eco-studio in the South Downs National Park, working with other specialists to offer a range of services and activities for the community.

Future Fit is the best PT company if you want to be the best!

After a lot of searching for a Training provider that offered both flexible training and credible and great teaching, I came across Future Fit. I am so glad that I decided to go with them! I have learnt an amazing amount through the online platform and face-to-face workshops and now I feel really confident going out to work with clients with a solid scientific background to my knowledge. I have also met some fantastic people through the courses and have built an amazing network of friends and contacts which is a great support as I now work for myself. If you want to be a fantastic PT then I would highly recommend doing your training with Future Fit.
