Sony gets social

Electronics giant Sony Europe has partnered with streetfootballworld, a non-profit social enterprise, to drive positive social change through football. Working alongside world governing bodies FIFA and UEFA, as well as the German government, Sony will be the first commercial partner to take part in the initiative.

Aimed at achieving a long-term and sustainable change in disadvantaged communities in both developed and developing countries, the Berlin-based streetfootballworld aims to address social issues through football. Its network encompasses more than 70 grassroots organisations worldwide.

Starting out in the UK, Germany and South Africa, Sony will provide the network organisations with photography and film workshops, designed to help them utilise digital technology to document and present their ideas in the best possible way.

REPs plans new test centres

The Register of Exercise Professionals is working with awarding bodies and training providers to establish Test Centres nationwide to help assess people's knowledge and skills against recognised standards.

The move is in response to the increasing demand of overseas applicants and individuals from Higher Education wishing to join the Register.

A large number of international and Higher Education applicants have studied for many years and achieved high level related qualifications and degrees, but are unable to prove their knowledge competence and skills against the sector's agreed standards.

Registrar Jean-Ann Marnoch added: "We hope this will allow many more, highly knowledgeable fitness professionals to begin working as REPs members. We've wanted to find a way of assessing such potential members for a long time so are delighted that the processes are now in place."

REPs' member survey

More than 1,600 fitness professionals - including current Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) members, past members and non-members have taken part in a survey designed to evaluate the services the Register offers.

Respondents were asked questions on how well the Register is doing its job – including the incentives for joining REPs, the registration process and their satisfaction with the Register's products, services and customer service.

The results are now being analysed, and will form part of the REPs' new business plan.
